Review
Luxor is a very entertaining game with a lot of action and in which you have to stay alert at all times. Is not that different to several other games alike, but this one has a plus with a nice interface and great music and sound effects. There are no background story or annoying introductions, as soon as you enter the game you can start playing with no previous distractions.
At the same time the game is pretty easy to play with no complicated rules. To prove that the game only offers a single page help to prepare you to play.
The game basically consists in creating matches of 3 or more to destroy spheres and stop them from entering your pyramid. To make this clearer let’s say that the spheres come rolling down from a curvy path which starts at the top of the screen and ends in the pyramid entrance at the bottom. In order to create the matches you have to shot spheres with your scarab, a sort of battle ancient ship. You can move the scarab with your mouse and shoot the spheres with the left button. You can view the upcoming spheres colors to plan ahead, and you even can swap the current and next spheres by right clicking with the mouse.
Depending on the matches you create, the spheres will throw up gems, ankh coins and symbols which you have to collect in order to score bonus points, earn an extra life, and activate awesome powerups, respectively.
When you enter the game, you’ll see the welcome screen with the following options:
- Change player: this is the option from which you can create the profiles. The first time you play the game there’s no existing players. When you access this submenu, you’ll be asked for a name as a new player. It’s possible to have a list of different players and record their performance.
- Start Game: this option leads you right to the game. You will be shown the help page of the game. You can click the “Don’t show this again” checkbox.
- Options: this is the menu from which you can set some game options like: sound effects volume, music volume, fever volume, 3D acceleration, colorblind mode, custom cursors, and full screen (on/off).
- Instructions: it shows a single page help to learn the basics of the game.
- Hall of Fame and Quit: no further explanation required.
You can try this game for 60 minutes before you buy the licensed version. You can also try it online without the need of downloading the installer file to your computer. If you like it, you can buy this game for only 19.95 dollars, right from the Oberon Media Game Center, on the Web.
